Now, I have been reading reports on depression and the trend now is that it may be in your gut and not so much a mental illness.
What to eat that can help your gut and your mood.
We need to eat food that makes Dopamine for your mood and an Inflammation diet to help your gut.

To help make Dopamine, which is what we need for depression, we need foods rich in Tyrosine, an amino acid.
Foods like bananas, blueberries, strawberries and prunes. (the last one is hard for me!)
Probiotics, fish, eggs, bananas, green tea, dark chocolate, and almonds.
It is good to stick to a Mediterranean Diet.
They eat all the foods that are good for depression and they stay thin.
For protein have eggs, fish poultry and red meat. Organic food is best, because a lot of people are allergic to chemicals that are sprayed on food crops.
Apples stimulate dopamine. Vitamins such as Amino acids, vitamin B6 and watermelon juice are also good for dopamine.
So are leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower, lentils, chickpeas ( which is hummus) black beans, and papaya.
Red beets are good for you as they have amino acids and betaine.
Sugar also releases Dopamine, BUT, sugar causes inflammation and is bad for your gut.
Sugar is an addiction that is worse than an addiction to cocaine. Wean yourself off of sugar. After a few days everything that you like with sugar will not taste good to you. For real!!
Try things you may like. Smoothies, dark chocolate with peanut butter, hot tea, sweet potatoes with cinnamon or apples with peanut butter.
