There is a difference between Depression and Disappointment.

When you sometimes think you are very depressed are you really very disappointed instead? The symptoms can feel the same.

The next time you feel really down in the dumps, think real hard to decide if you really are down in the dumps or very disappointed that things didn’t turn out the way you had hoped.

They do feel the same, but if you ask yourself if you are really disappointed, you should feel an up-tick in your mind that it is not a depressive episode and really is disappointment. Yay, you!!!

It is a Huge Deal

You might be wondering what the big deal is. It is a huge deal if you are a depressive person. Think about the breakthrough you just made. That maybe, just maybe, when you think you are depressed about something, you’re not at all!

Disappointment is something you feel hurt about loosing. Depression pulls you down and stomps on your face and does not let up.

To be able to tell the difference is Epic!!!

To be able to say, well, that was disappointing, but I can think of a different way if I really want it. Instead of, this depression takes away everything I want. There is no use to keep trying.

Yes, your depression is still in the background, but, we can work with disappointment.

To be able to tell the difference, you can think things through or get a pen and paper and write the pros and cons. Or even, write a journal so you can keep track of if it was disappointment or depression taking charge.

Let me try to explain the difference.

Let me try to explain the difference in disappointment or depression.

I don’t have much money, so Imagine how excited I was when I thought the bank had made a mistake. They have been doing that a lot with my credit cards lately and I was right then, so why not now!

Well, this time they were right. Depression tried to rush to the front of the line of brain talk. Wait just a minute there. I wondered am I really depressed about this or just really disappointed. On thinking it through the disappointment won out and I could push depression back.

By the way: I tried to work the problem out one more time….I WAS RIGHT!!

To a person with chronic depression this is a huge breakthrough. You can actually tell that there is a difference. It is Epic and amazing!!!

Journals are a great way to keep track of your emotions and realize that there are other emotions inside of you besides only depression. They can feel the same on the outside, but, a deep look on the inside can tell you the difference between depression or disappointment.

Try it. You just might amaze yourself.
