The Time of Darkness

Lift your mood in the dark months

We need to work at getting through this time of darkness. The clocks fall back this Sunday. Yay, early darkness.

It is time to pull out all the stops. Get a mood lamp. Use this lamp to read by or work by and it will tell your body that you are getting sunshine. It has helped me for the darkest time of the year for a lot of years.

For days when the sun stays behind the clouds yellow glasses tell your brain that it is not as dark as it seems. Things will look yellow but the mood can increase for you.

Getting outside, even in the cold air is another helper for your mood. Rake the leaves or clean the flower beds. A nice walk in the woods is nice and quiet. A good time to see nature. Nature is like grounding and it helps to feel like a part of something larger.

The whole idea of things in the fall and winter darkness is to elevate your mood and that helps your well being.

Getting out of bed and getting dressed helps that mood also. It makes it a little easier to open the door and go out.

Getting out in the air is helpful to lighten your mood.

My biggest thing to do for this time of year is to get my meds changed. I have been on this anti-depressant for a long time. You really do need a change once in a while to get a boost from your medicine.

Smells can increase your mood, also. Bake some bread or cookies. Maybe a cheesecake or something with cinnamon. Whatever smell that can lift you up and help your mood.

If you have a fireplace that smell can be magic.

Getting your mood up in the dark fall and winter months can be a big help.

It is important at this time of year to keep your mood out of the darkness. And the days get longer starting around Christmas. That is not too far away and will be something to look forward to.

Stay out of the darkness the best way for you. It is not all that hard.
